Upcoming Junior AF championship
After coming out second best against Fr o Neills first time out the Glenville Junior A Footballers are back in championship action this coming Saturday night in Rathcormac. Lisgoold are our opponents and this will be a tough nut to crack for our side. Lisgoold were beaten finalists in last years Junior A final and will be very difficult task for this young Glenville side. Glenville will be looking for a strong performance but with a few players unavailable from the last game the task will be all the more difficult. Hopefully Glenville will rise to the occasion and we wish all involved the best of luck Saturday night. Throw in is 6.45pm. Glenville Intermediate side face a tough task in travelling to Clonakilty to play the home side in the league. Check locally for time as I don’t have confirmation at this point.
Games played
Action was thin on the ground this week with the Junior Footballers the only adult team in action over the Easter weekend. Glenville played Whites Cross in a challenge game and proved a worthwhile game with players performing and staking a shout for next weeks championship. Whites Cross won out at the end of a very good game 1-10 to 0-12.
The U12 (1) Footballers provided great entertainment on Saturday when they travelled to Aghavine to play Fr o Neills. This was a goal fest from start to finish with some magnificent scores from both sides. Glenville found themselves 4-5 to 1-4 behind at halftime but turned on the style in the second half. Fr o Neills just did enough to win in the end 7-8 to 5-10. Glenville (2) play Brian Dillons Wednesday night in Glenville at 6.45 while next weekend Glenville (1) play Castlelyons Saturday at 2pm in Glenville while Sunday evening Glenville (2) v St Catherines away at 6pm.
The U13s travelled to Killeagh to play the home side and after a slow start found the going tough early on. Trailing by 1-2 to 0-1 Glenville were a changed side in the second half containing Killeagh/Itas to no score while finding the range in the other side of the field. Glenville had lots of possession but on a wild windy day the scores were always going to be hard to come by. Glenville 1-6 Killeagh / Itas 1-2. Progressing nicely Glenville have 2 remaining league fixtures with St Vincents and Aghabullogue both at home in the coming weeks. Championship is also on the horizon waiting on the winners of Passage or Carrigtwohill in the end of April.
The U10 FL is starting in the next week with Glenville playing Youghal and Erins Own in the first 2 games.
Training continues for all juveniles on Wednesday nights in Fouhy Park at 6.45pm.. Contact Dave at 087 6125719 for any details. Any newcomers are also more than welcome.
