East Cork/Avondhu junior hurling league

Dungourney hurlers travelled to Shanballymore on last Wednesday night to take on the locals who like ourselves had two wins from their opening

matches.Dungourney had the better of the first half playing against the wind and went in at half time with a two point lead ten points to eight.Darragh

Ahern had his first start of the season at corner forward and played well contributing a few scores and with John Ronayne at centre forward playing

well things were looking good for the second half.

Shanballymore are a good team and proved it in the second half never giving Dungourney a breather and pulling in any Dungourney lead but when sub Warren McCarthy put over two points we thought it was all over.Shanbally gave us a good fright though with a late goal but Dungourney ran out

winners on a scoreline of Shanballymore 1-15  Dungourney  0-20.

East Cork U21 football semi final.

The u21 footballers met Castlelyons in the U21 football semi final in Ballynoe on Sat night last and both teams treated us to an enthralling hours

football.Dungourney started well but it was Castlelyons who had the opening point before Shane Hegarty popped over a point for our first score

on six minutes. On twelve minutes a cross ball from Dan Kenneally was finished to the net by Conor Hayes undeterred Castlelyons immediatley

responded with a goal of their own before a good point from Martin Hennessy put us ahead. The teams swopped points again and then Martin

Hennessy capitalised on a goalmouth scramble to goal for Dungourney Castlelyons pointed again before Bill Ahern scored for us leaving the score at the short whistle Dungourney 2-04 Castlelyons 1-03.

The second half was a classic ,Castlelyons pointed first but four unanswered Dungourney points gave us a good advantage,Castlelyons came

again though with two points that sandwiched a Conor Hayes effort that hit the crossbar and with fifteen minutes gone Niall put us farther ahead

with a fine point.Dave Harnedy replaced Dan Kenneally on sixteen mins before a goal and two points for Castlelyons put just one point between the teams and it was all set for a nailbiting finish.Conor Hayes pointed on twenty nine to extend our lead to two but Castlelyons broke from a Dungourney

attack and the corner forward struck a sublime shot past Sean Broderick to give them a one point lead.Dungourney tryed again for an equaliser but it wasnt to be and when referee Cathal McAllister blew the final whistle the Dungourney lads were distraught.

So a heartbreaking defeat but on the plus side the lads put up a fantastic performance and the signs are good for the future final score

Castlelyons 3-08 Dungourney 2-10.
