SHL
Round 3 of the Red FM sponsored Senior hurling league took place on Saturday evening last when we welcomed old adversories Newtownshandrum to Cloyne.
The first 20 minutes we played really well and were more than a match for the North Cork men.Ashley opened the scoring direct from the throw in with a well taken point.
Playing a lovely brand of attacking hurling we scored the next 3 points,a James Nyhan free and a point each for Colm and Domhnall O Sullivan,Ciaran Mullins who was very lively in the corner forward position scored the next 2 points and this was followed by a Dillon Cahill point and a free from James to leave the score 8points each at half time.
The introduction of former All Star Jerry O Connor had a lifting effect on the visitors as they completely dominated the second half.
We lost a few players to injuries which had an unsettling effect on the team. The old saying that goals win games was proved correct as Newtown scored 3 goals in the last 15 minutes and even though we battled bravely to the end and never gave up it wasn’t to be and Newtown went on to win 3.14 to 11pts.
