Cooney challenges Glanmire GAA to deliver on 'remarkable' plan.

GAA President Mr. Christy Cooney launched what he called a 'remarkable' strategic plan on Tuesday night in Sallybrook for Glanmire GAA club. Mr. Cooney commended the club for the amount of effort it's members had gone to in producing such a comprehensive and detailed vision for the club for the next five years.

Accompanied by Cork County board PRO Tracey Kennedy and development officer Diarmuid Gowan, Cooney stated that the club had 'made very significant strides' but urged the club and it's 800 strong membership to do everything in it's power to achieve the goals set out in the plan. He said 'Tonight is about your future and this plan is worthless unless it is delivered upon.' He continued 'The ambition that exists within this plan is absolutely remarkable. In five years time if you can achieve what you have in here there'll be no stopping this club'

The plan which has been a work in progress since October 2010 proposes a restructuring of the club with an emphasis on the establishment of sub-committees to address the needs of specific areas such as finance, coaching, communication, facilities and maintenance and social and cultural integration.

2011 was a landmark year for Glanmire GAA on the field with success at U14,U16, minor and intermediate levels as well as a thriving ladies club whose U12 team were crowned All-Ireland Champions.

Club chairman Gabriel McCarthy thanked all the membership for it's continued support and stated that he was in no doubt that the club as a whole was well within it's capability to deliver on the plans objectives. He said' The most important component within any GAA club is it's members and we are very fortunate to have such a large base which we hope to grow even further. Our intention is to continue to improve the club from the ground up and encourage as many children as possible to play Gaelic games. We will endeavour to harness the talents of all our members both on and off the field to ensure the completion of all the goals set out in our strategic plan.'
