Lisgoold GAA Club News

20 March, 2012

Double disappointment for the cork seniors as the hurlers & footballers slumped to four and two point defeats. Galway showed what they can do after a momentus comeback after a dreadful first-half, while in football our lack of composure when taking scores was evident as Kerry were let off the hook. However, one can hope that this is just a blimp in what we hope will be a very sucessful year for Cork. Lisgoold's first team footballers had no game at the weekend (again), and with championship just around the corner, let’s just hope, they will up it a few gears in training for the next week as they take on Midleton. Our under-21s are the first team in the club to make the championship start for 2012. They will play Dungourney in Ballinacurra this Saturday. We wish Manager Owen Heagrty and his backroom team the best of luck.

Junior Hurling Challenge

Lisgoold 4-11 (23)
Killeagh 2-14 (20)
At Killeagh
13th March 2012

Another positive step for our hurlers as tehy came out of this chaleenge match with a soild performance. Bill Whelan capped a very workmanlike performance with two goals as well as Jamie Hurley. Killeagh fielded a blend of youth and expierence for this encounter, and were in firm control for most of the first half playing a brand of slick quick hurling. Bryan O'Sullivan and John Cronin were doing their upmost to stem the tide and Jamie Hurelys first goal did stop their momentum. However Killeagh headed in at half time 2-7 to 1-5.

The second half Lisgoold were a different story, two long frees (in quick sucession) early in the second half, came off the post were finished off by Bill, which turned the tie on its head. With this, Lisgoold pushed on, Noel Connery, Cathal Cashman and Barry Ahern stepped up a gear and our lads pushed away from Killeagh. Coming into the last 10 minutes Jamie Hurley got his second and Lisgoold fourth later on to put a bit of gloss on the score-line. Killeagh managed a second green flag to cut the gap down to three, but it was a case of too little too late. So another good outing for the hurlers, lets hope the Under 21's will follow suit on Saturday.
