Lisgoold GAA Club News

13 March, 2012

Cork hurling seems to back on the rails as the came out of the capital win a one point win. The footballers made it a double as the comprehensively defeated Laois. So it would be right to say, bright things are on the horizon. As for Lisgoold our preparations for championship have stepped up a gear by having a few football challenge matches, also with a few players coming back form injury, things are coming up to the boil as we head for a 1st round showdown against Midleton.

Junior Hurling Challenge

Lisgoold 3-8 (17)
Blarney 1-7 (10)
At Mourneabbey
6th March 2012

Last week on a windswept, rainy Tuesday night – Our junior hurlers carved out a good win against a very decent Blarney team. It was tough difficult conditions, but Mike Woods’s squad adapted and performed well throughout the hour. As Lisgoold battled the way through this tough encounter, it was a tit for tat battle for the majority of the game with the goals the major in the match. Jamie woods cracked in two superb goals and Alan Conroy got the third. John Cronin made his return from his Fitzgibbon duty and led the attack well while Cathal Cashman was showing the way in defence. New recruit Brian O’Sullivan (who we welcome to the club) was firing superbly, likewise Cian Scannell. Mike Woods had this to say “It’s a very satisfactory outing, we played well, but there’s a lot of work to be done. However the young players are performing well and when a few of the more experienced players come back form injury we can start working on our squad for championship”.

Shave & Dye

It has been an event going strong for the past the month, and while the event is entering its peak, we have a brave member of the club to join the cause. Moss Mulcahy (one of our club officers) has decided to do the worthy deed, to dye his hair pink!!! (Which was kindly sponsored by Church Lane Barber Shop in Midleton) he will have it shaved off on the 23rd March – if anyone who is interested in sponsorship, you can contact moss (0872123628) to make a donation to raise funds for this very worthy cause.

Fundraiser for new GAA dressing rooms - 3-ball golf scramble, East Cork Golf club Wed 23rd May

Lisgoold GAA will be holding their inaugural golf fundraiser for the proposed new GAA dressing rooms as detailed above.  This promises to be a great, fun event. Keith McSweeney (086-8244833) will be taking tee times for this event. Tee box sponsorship is available for €50 and we would greatly appreciate any support in this regard. We look forward to a very successful outing.
