Glenville GAA
The Junior A Footballers had their second game in the League on Wednesday night against local rivals Bride Rovers in Fouhy Park. Bride Rovers started the better and were two points up early on. Glenville began to take control around the middle and with Shane Bergin and Brendan Maloney causing wreck up front Glenville kicked some sublime scores with all the forwards moving very well. Against the run of play Bride scored a goal with the defence caught ball watching but in fairness we settled down to kick three scores before the break. Glenville dominated the second half from start to finish playing some lovely football in the process. Scores were beginning to get scarce but Glenville with the wide count mounting were always in control. Glenville had enough in the tank at the end to carve out a win 0-12 to 1-4 but in truth Glenville should have wrapped this game up far sooner than they did. Sound performance though from everyone.

The Minor side suffered a heavy defeat against Kiltha Og in the second match in the current Premier league. Glenville were equal to the challenge early on and match our opponents for the first 20 minutes or so. A goal against the run of play just on halftime gave Kiltha Og a cushion. Glenville expecting to show an improvement in the second half were completely over ran by an eager Kiltha Og team who taught us a lesson on the night. Kilta Og 6-9 Glenville 0-4

Sunday the U16 Footballers made the long journey to face Fr O Neills in the League. Glenville conceded five first half goals which was all down to mistakes and trailed by 5-1 to 0-3. Glenville showed great determination in the second half to claw back into the game but the margin built up in the first half was too great to haul back. Final Score Fr o Neills 5-4 Glenville 0-7.

The U13 team recorded a very impressive away win against a strong Passage side on Sunday evening last. Playing some excellent football Glenville showed great character and skill to control the game in the second half after a difficult opening half. Well done to all concerned with this win and sets the team up nicely for the year ahead. Keep up the good work. Glenville 3-7 Passage 2-5.

Unfortunately the Intermediate side suffered its second defeat in the League with a 0-12 to 0-6 loss which was played in Mourneabbey  on Monday night last. Glenville were equal to the task in the opening half against a fast moving Ballingeary side and trailed 0-7 to 0-5 at the break. The second half turned into a tough 30 minutes as we got a right lesson from Ballingeary. Our solitary point in the second half was disappointing as was giving away a glut of easy frees.. A lot of work to do but early days yet in the season. You certainly don’t get anything easy in this grade and games against Bantry, Clonakilty and Clyda Rovers to come, the challenge presenting its self should prepare the team well for the upcoming championship against Valley Rovers.
Also on Monday night the Junior 3 Footballers had a great win against Killeagh in the league. This was an excellent performance from this team who had suffered earlier setback against St Catherines last time out. A feature of the game was the marksmanship from both sides with some scores out of the top drawer. Glenville held a 0-7 to 0-4 interval lead. Killeagh trimmed that right after the break with a brace early on. Glenville moved the ball very well and continued as they did in the first half. With the sides level at ten points each with 5 minutes to go it was anybodys game but Glenville composed play won out in the end with three late scores. Glenville 0-13 Killeagh 0-10 was the end result.

Hard luck to our three representitives Enda, Jimmy and Tadgh who were unlucky in the Scor Sinsor in Ovens on Saturday night. Yer getting closer all the time. Some day it will all come right and they ll be no stopping ye.!!

A very well organised and well supported function took place on Friday night to honour the achievements in juvenile level in 2011 with the Co U14 side getting their medals from Cork star Colm o Neill. Well done to everyone who did the club proud.
