Aghada GAA Club News

Fri 24th J F L Div 3 Russell Rovers 2-11 Aghada 0-9

A nice crowd witnessed a good game of football played in great conditions on a balmy February night,
Aghada opened the scoring with a point from Brian Wall who operated at full forward. But from the kick out the Rovers attacked and from a ball that should have been cleared they manufactured a goal for the lead they would never lose. The next ten minutes resulted in three more minors for the Rovers despite plenty of Aghada possession.

The home side were guilty of wayward frees in scoring positions. Eoin O’Neill lifted the siege with a point on the 13th minute as Aghada got a grip at midfield with Richie Goode win a lot of ball. Shane wall at centre back (the best player on show) was also in control and soloed the length of the field to land a fabulous point, to leave a goal between the sides. From there to the short whistle the Rovers tacked on three more points despite the good work of Michael Burchill at corner back the half time score stood at Aghada 0-3 Russell Rovers 1-6.

On resumption the Rovers scored from the throw in, O’Neill replied with a point from a placed ball but the Rovers were on top now. A goal followed a minute later and Aghada were in trouble. Aghada introduced James Daly at wing forward and he landed a point from his first kick to give Aghada hope.  O’Neill again pointed from the ground and from the kick out Raymond Savage landed another point. But it was the Rovers night despite great work by Dave Rice who covered mighty ground. Well done also to Eric Higgins playing his first game for the club made some great saves near the end and could not be faulted for any of the goals.

Congratulations to the Midleton CBS U16 team that won the Cork Colleges A Hurling final last Sat night. The final was the Curtin raiser before the Cork Waterford S H L game.
The Aghada continent make their presents felt with outstanding displays from the Captain Aaron Stafford at Centre back, Jake O’Donoghue at wing back, and Mark Healy at corner back. On the bench we had Shane Dorney, and John Looney well done lads.

At half time in the Cork Waterford S H L game our U12 hurlers played Ballyhea in the U 12 Mini games it was a sight to gladden any Aghada heart.
Dogs
We have serious problems with dogs in the pitches signs have been up in the pitch for a couple of years now, reminding dog owners of their responsibilities when bringing a dog/s to pitch........
Please Keep dogs on a lead at all times. Please pick up and remove the dog feces (which is the law of the land) while your are on GAA property.
The new Field down by the wood is now been used for under age training and should be kept clear of dogs.
loose dogs and their feces pose a health risk to our under age players and members

Enjoy your walk in Rostellan it is one of finest walks in the country but please treat the Club and its members with respect after all it is Private Property
