Intermediate Football

Cloyne travelled to Fermoy on Thursday night last to play the locals in Div 4 of the county league. It turned out to be a profitable journey as we came away with a 2 point win after an excellent game of football.
Conditions on the night were perfect on an excellent surface and this lent itself to an exceptionally fast open game of football.
Fermoy were first to score and had 2 points on the board before we settled down and levelled matters following 2 pointed frees from James Nyhan and Diarmuid O Sullivan.Once our backs settled down we began to play some excellent attacking football culminating in a goal from young corner forward Ciaran Mullins who finished to the net after a fine Mike Naughton effort came back off the crossbar.
The pace of the game at this stage was more like championship in July and we continued to put some lovely moves together driven on from the back by Graham Fleming,James Cotter and Brian McCarthy in particular.Colm O Sullivan landed a great score from play to leave us ahead at half-time by 1.03 to 4 pts.

The pace of the game understandably dropped in the second half and it turned into a scrappy affair, with a pointed Fermoy free in the 12th minute the first score of the half.
We were finding in very hard to gain possession and when we did so made  poor decisions which saw us turn over the ball.Fermoy could have punished us but some poor shooting coupled with great defending kept the damage to a minimum.
Our first score of the half came in the 18th minute from a James Nyhan free following an excellent burst forward by Eoin O Sullivan. This had a settling effect on the team and we kicked 2 points from play from James again and Colm O Sullivan to see us win out on the scoreline of Cloyne 1.06 Fermoy 7 pts.
An excellent result which gives us our first win in the league this year.

Junior Football

On Friday night last we travelled to Carrigtohill for a Div 3 football league game but with both teams and the referee about to get proceedings under way the generator for the lights packed up.Despite efforts from the local club the problem couldn’t be fixed so we will have to do it all again at a later date.

Congratulations to Keith Dennehy who became the first club man to get his hands on an All-Ireland football medal by virtue of his win with the Cork Vocational team against Kildare on Saturday last. This is a fantastic achievement for Keith, his family and the club and we hope it’s the first of many.
Congratulations also to Captain Donal Og Cusack and Paudie O Sullivan who played prominent roles in Corks national league victory over Waterford on Saturday night  last.Donal kept a clean sheet and Paudie contributed 2.01 to the cause. It was great to see such a crowd and the buzz back in Cork hurling again and heres hoping this continues for the rest of 2012.
