Junior league action

A very busy week on the playing field as league action at all levels was the order of the week. The Junior 3 league team were in action on Friday night when they travelled to Ballynoe to play the home side in round 2 of the league. Glenville had a great turnout for this game with 22 players ready for the fray. St Catherines under the guidance of former Cork hurling Manager Denis Walsh were well organised and held a three point advantage at the break. Glenville kept the momentum going, competing very well  and trimmed the lead 0-5 to 0-3 midway through the second half. Glenville ran out of steam for the rest of the game as St Catherines fitness told in the end with a succession of scores put a gloss on the scoreboard from their point of view. Glenville 0-3 St Catherines 1-10. Best for Glenville were John o Connell, Shane Bergin, Darragh Foley and Mossie Keane. Glenville next game in Div 3 is at home to Glenbower Rovers on Thursday March 1st in Fouhy Park.

U15 team continue to impress

Sunday morning the U15 side travelled to Brinny to take on Valley Rovers in round 2 of the Premier U15 Football League. Glenville gave a display from start to finish full of energy, pace and skill. Adam Murphy was a thorn at full forward and had amazed four cracking goals in the opening twenty minutes, one as good as the next that ended the game as a contest. PJ Dennehy scores the fifth. Glenville continued in the same vain during the second with power performances from the entire side. In the end Glenville were winners 8-14 to Valley Rovers 3-5. A great start to this league campaign with full points from both games. Next league game is against Eire Og in two weeks.

Good performance from Intermediates

A spirited performance from an unlucky Glenville team in the opening round of the SFL Div 2 with travelling St Vincents came with a late rally to steel the points in the last minute. Glenville played good football all through but the final execution in the scoring stakes was our Achilles heel. Controlling the game for long periods our failure to kill off the game when the opportunites arose was disappointing but other aspects of our game were most encouraging and they is plenty of optimism going forward with this team. With several players sidelined due to injury the younger players performed quiet well and will stake a claim as the year goes on. Glenville 1-6 St Vincents 1-7 was the final score. Brendan Maloney was the Glenville goalscorer finishing expertly after a great move.
