Erins Own Edge out Dungourney

Erins Own 1-07 Dungourney 0-9

Erins Own qualified to meet Fr O Neills in the 3rd round of the Junior A Football Championship with a narrow one point win over Dungourney on March 31st. In a dour game of football Erins Own managed the victory through better teamwork and finishing than their opponents. Erins Own opened brightly with a goal from Stephen Aherne after a great run by Andrew Power. Both teams exchanged points throughout the first half to leave the score 1-04 to 0-3 at half time.

Both teams were reduced to 14 men early in the 2nd half as a player from each side was sent off for 2nd yellow card offence . Dungourney managed to draw level midway through the half. Erins Own improved and went 2 points clear but Dungourney drew level again. In the last few minutes a superb save by Patrick Walsh denied Dungourney a certain goal. Following a great move upfield Stephen Aherne scored what proved to be the winning point. Erins Own had to defend heroically for the last few minutes to deny Dungourney another equaliser and were relieved to hear the final whistle.
