Mr.Seán O Dowd R.I.P.
The Club would like to extend its deepest sympathies to the family of the late Seán O Dowd,Cloghane,Co.Kerry on their recent sad loss,Seán came to our parish in Sept.1961 when he started teaching in the old Kilcredan National school. His love of our national games became evident soon after his arrival and within a few short years he was instrumental in the forming of the Fr.O’Neills Juvenile GAA Club, our first title at Juvenile level was won in 1972 when we won the U14 hurling league and more titles were to follow as a result of Seáns work and enthusiasm, Sean was involved in the setting up of the first Schools Shields Board with Jack Cotter from Midleton and Peader Seymour from Carrigtwohill and he was a member of the original Field Committee in the parish. Seán was to spend close on 15 years as a valuable and highly respected member of our community before heading back to his native County of Kerry with his wife and young family,he never forgot or lost contact with the numerous people he had become friends with in his time in our parish and was to return to visit them on many an occasion there after. On the proudest day in the history of our Club on the 12th February 2006 Seán was present in Croke Park as one of our own to witness the All Ireland Jnr.Hurling title being won.Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
