A Wonderful Night for East Cork!

01 December, 2011

On Wednesday, November 30th, Gaels gathered from far and wide in Midleton GAA Pavilion, at the heart of the East Cork Division. The occasion? The launch of Tom Morrison's epic tome, "An Illustrated History of the GAA in East Cork 1924-2010", and a wonderful occasion it certainly proved to be. Guests of honour were Uactarán Cumann Luthchleas Gael, Críostóir Ó Cuana and Uactarán Cumann Camogaíochta na nGael, Joan O'Flynn, both of whom hail from this Division.

Joining them were author of the book Tom Morrison, East Cork and County Board officers past and present, club representatives from all around the Division and beyond, Avondhu Divisional Board officers, Cork Senior Football Manager Conor Counihan and many more. Four Cork hurling legends, Sean Fleming (Midleton) Willie-John Daly (Carrigtwohill), Paddy Abernethy (Castlemartyr) and Fr. Colman O'Donovan were also in attendance. Guests were entertained by Scór groups from Aghada and Fr. O'Neills, and MC on the night was East Cork PRO Derek Kiely. The gathering was addressed by Michael O'Brien, Tom Morrison, County Chairman Jerry O'Sullivan and both Presidents, and afterwards books were presented by Michael O'Brien and Tracey Kennedy to Christy Cooney and Joan O'Flynn.

This special night may have focussed on the past, but the stars of the future were also honoured as the Imokilly U15 Hurling team received their Dick Barrett Shield Medals from Christy Cooney.

The book retails at €25 and will be available shortly from clubs and shops - watch this space for more information!!
