BrideRovers GAA Club Notes.

Well DoneCarrig!

It wasBarack Obama who coined the phrase 'Yes We Can' and it certainly proved to bethe motto for the Carrigtwohill team this year. At Pairc Ui Chaoimh on Sunday last they won the County Senior Hurling Final and were presented with the SeanOg Murphy Cup amid scenes never witnessed before.

As rank outsiders last Maywhen the Championship began Carrig are an example to everyone of the real'spirit of the little village' which is at the heart of the GAA.

A resolutedefence and never say die attitude saw them defeat our conquerors Cit by asingle glorious point scored by the immortal Seanie O Farrell. Senior for just4 years and involved in Relegation battles in two of those seasons Carrigshowed the thin line between success and defeat.

In Round One they defeatedBallinhassig by two points and in the process didn't score at all in the secondhalf! Five months later Carrig are County Champions and Ballinhassig arerelegated.

JuniorHurling League Final on Sunday.

On Sundaynext we play St. Itas in the East Cork Junior Hurling League Division TwoFinal.

The Gortroe side had a great win over Cloyne last weekend to securetheir Final spot. They have played 8 games in the competition, winning 5 anddrawing 3 giving them 13 points.

We are on a similar total having played 8games, losing one, drawing one and winning 6. The onlygame we lost was on Wednesday May 20th when we lost to Sundays opponents. InPilmore on that evening St. Itas won well on a scoreline of 3 14 to 2 7.

We will beup against it in the Final as this will be our 'second string' against St. Itasonly team.

We have lost several players to the Senior team as the yearprogressed but we can still draw our team from our Junior A and Junior Cchampionship teams.

The Final is fixed for 12 noon on Sunday next October 9th.At the time of writing no venue has been fixed but it may be played inCarrigtwohill. Best of luck to all involved and go for it lads.

Well DoneGirls.

It was ahectic weekend for the fairer sex of our parish with two huge championshipgames in less than twenty four hours. At Sean Treacy Park in Tipperary town onSaturday the girls qualified for the Munster Club Intermediate ChampionshipFinal.

They had a great win over Shannon Rangers of Clare. They will meet St.Ailbhes of Caherconlish, Limerick in the Munster Final on Sunday week October16th. Then on Sunday morning the most of the girls had to turn out again toplay in the County Junior Camogie Final. It seems crazy to ask amateur playersto play twice within twenty four hours, especially in two major Championshipgames

. At the Co. Camogie grounds in Mahon on Sunday Ballinascarthy were theopponents. In fairness to our girls they played very well but were overtaken inthe second half by the West Cork Side. Well done to all involved with the team.
