East Cork Oil Junior 'A' Hurling Championship Final Press Launch 2011

02 September, 2011

TONIGHT saw the official press launch of the East Corl Oil sponsored East Cork Junior 'A' Hurling Championship Final at Midleton GAA Club.

The Championship Final itself will be played at Clonmult Memorial Park on Saturday the 10th of September at 6pm. The finalists are Dungourney and Carraig na bhFear and in this the Premier competition in East Cork both these Junior Clubs will leave nothing in the dressing rooms and will give it everything they have to take home the Jamesey Kelleher Cup to their respective clubs and Parishes .

Which ever side win in this East Cork Final come next Saturday evening, they would have earnt it after a tough and testing championship where so many clubs could have been a candidate in this years campaign.

Dungourney had just three games this year and met the defending champions on two occassions, in the first round the Castlemartyr colours were lowered significantly by the Dungourney men and in the semi final of the Championship in Aghavine, Dungourney looked impressive again.

As for Carraig na bhFear, well a tough road to the final in what many people considered to be the harder half of the draw. Carraig's impressive performance against Lisgoold in the quarter final replay in Castlelyons, showed that they are very good at closing out games and up against a tough Sarsfields team in the semi final the men from Carraig na bhFear showed how to go and win them aswell.

Chairman of the East Cork Board Michael O'Brien welcomed the respective camps to the lauch of the East Cork Oil Junior A Hurling Championship final as well as members of the press and a special thanks was given to Midleton GAA Club for hosting the launch and for providing excellent refreshments for all in attendance.

Michael O'Brien reminissed on the 2010 East Cork Final and how on that day Castlemartyr were favourites, but commented that this year it was impossible to make either side favourite going into the 2011 Final, and added that it was an impossible game to call, but one thing was for sure and that this years final should be a cracking game of Hurling.

Thanks also were given to Con Ryan and everyone at East Cork Oil for their sponsorship of the Championship and their continued support of East Cork GAA, Michael O'Brien said it was deeply appreciated. .

This evening the laucnh began at 8pm and both camps present were looking forward to the match and speaking to both mentors and players from both Dungourney and Carraig na bhFear the overall impression I got was that the sooner the ball was thrown in the better.

Jer O'Connell will be the referee for the final, best wishes to him and his linesmen and umpires in the big game next Saturday.

The venue in Midleton for this years showcase game is superb and a big crowd is expected to Midleton on a day where the town celebrates its annual food fair, so hurling parons be warned, there could be traffic restrictions in place and delays are possible, so leave that bit earlier.
