County B Junior Hurling Championship Semi Final

Ballinacurra 1-16

Lismire 1-10

A second County Final in three years beckons for the hurlers from The Village after a fully deserved victory over Lismire in Cloughduv last Sunday. In truth Ballinacurra were always in control and their six point victory was certainly well merited.

Lismire got out of the blocks first from a pointed free after two minutes however Ballinacurra were soon on level terms when Scott Richards pointed from 35 metres out. In the 5th minute Lismire went ahead again with another point.

After eight minutes Scott Richards ran on to a breaking ball and rifled the ball to the corner of the net to put The Village ahead and as it turned out it was a lead they never lost for the remainder of the game. A Brian Sigerson point in the 13th minute had Ballinacurra three points ahead before two points in as many minutes from Lismire cut the deficit to the minimum.

In the 19th minute Brian Sigerson played a ball back to Trevor Costigan who split the posts from 40 metres to increase Ballinacurra’s lead. A minute later a storming run down the left hand side from the pacy Scott Richards resulted in another point.

A fine score from distance from Tommy O’Leary put four between the sides before another Scott Richards point, this time from the right hand side put The Village further ahead.

Lismire got the final score of the half to leave Ballinacurra ahead by 1-6 to 0-5 points at the break. The second half was only a minute old when a Scott Richards free had Ballinacurra five points ahead. A good move down the left hand side involving Brian Sigerson and Ger Healy, who eventually fed Killian Harty to fire over a fine point.

Lismire closed the gap to four points with two frees in the 4th and 6th minutes. Tommy O’Leary scored his second point of the game in the 9th minute before another point from Scott Richards from the left hand side a minute later put The Village six ahead. Scott Richards pointed a free in the 14th minute and three minutes later the ever reliant Brian Sigerson fired over one of his own.

A Lismire point in the 20th minute cut the lead to seven points. However Ballinacurra responded in style with a Scott Richards free and a Brian Sigerson effort from 45 metres out to put them nine points ahead after twenty three minutes. A mini revival by Lismire yielded a goal and two points in three minutes to cut the deficit to four points and leave them a fighting chance with four minutes remaining. A monstrous point from half way from Scott Richards eased Ballinacurra’s worries before Tommy O’Leary capped off a fine display with the final point of the game to leave Ballinacurra ahead by 1-16 to 1-10 at the final whistle.

A fine team display from Ballinacurra has them in fine fettle for the upcoming County Final against a strong Kilmichael side. So dust down those hats, flags, scarves and headbands for the trip to Pairc Ui Rinn within the coming weeks to support the lads in their efforts to win the county for the second time in three years.
