Championship Preview

Lios gCul v Carrig na bhFearr , in Castlelyons , Saturday at 6.30

The first outing could not decide the victor in this East Cork Championship Quarter Final , so the sides must do battle again to find out who will face Sarsfields in the penultimate round .

It is difficult to understand where momentum will lie after the drawn game , and , having been in a winning position deep into injury time , our boys will surely look to finishing the job this time round .

Most of the pre-match talk in the hostelries of Lisgoold is whether manager Mike Woods will make any personnel changes to our starting line up . When introduced in the drawn game , Jonathon O'Shea caused significant problems for his opponent , so , many will look with interest to the composition of the full forward line.

The stability of the inside line of Patrick , Cathal and Kevin has provided fantastic protection to Ciaran between the sticks . The Lazarus like recovery of Noel will see him cement his wing back berth again , which will free the swashbuckling style of Barry Ahern to a lar na pairce berth .

John Cronin will pick up from where he left off , with a brilliant finish to the drawn game . If our forwards can support the excellent John Cashman on the scoring responsibilities , there's no reason we can't emerge from Castlelyons as the winner on Saturday night .

Under 16 Championship On Wednesday the 3rd of August Lisgoold U16 boys played Kinsale at home in the first round of the championship. It was a bad night for hurling but we soon settled in to the game. We had some great performances all over the field to many to name them all.

The first half was tough and we led by a few points at half time. Lisgoold again got stuck in and we got some great scores in the second half. On the night Kinsale fought well back but Lisgoold were worthy winners in the finish. Next Wednesday August 10th we play Russell Rovers, it will be hard one but we again will give it a hundred percent.

Team ; Brian O'Connell, Brendan Flynn ( 0.04) , Bill Whelan , Mark Keniry , Michael Barry , Robert Conway , Michael Connery ( 0.01) , Martin Conroy , Shane McSweeney ( 1.00 ) , Kevin O'Keeffe ( 1.00 ) , John Joe Williams , Ciaran O'Shea , Jack Ryan , Kieran Cashman ( 2.04 ) , Luke Morrissey ( 1.00 ) , Fergal Roche

Under 13 League A thrilling encounter at a wet Pairc Lios gCul saw our boys just about eek out a victory over visitors Sarsfields . The brilliant Ciaran Cashman was best supported by Sean Power , Robert Williams and Shane Collins , while Liam Chandler continued his goal scoring record .

Well done also to the younger players who played their first U13 game on Saturday as the boys start the build up to Championship encounter against Under 12 County Champions from last year Bride Rovers .

This should be a thrilling encounter for anyone who would like to see two very evenly matched sides do battle with local , and ultimate Championship bragging rights on offer to the victor.

Under 12's v Watergrasshill

Another very worthwhile encounter where two - goal hero Liam Chandler was on fire on a very wet and drizzly night . Defensively , Sean Whelan , Cian Healy and Jason Hegarty were to the fore , on a night where the fine hurling on show by both sides was a credit despite the difficult handling conditions .

This side has continued to play regular games , even when short of "regulars" . This pattern continued on Wednesday , where some "fringe" players will have used the opportunity to force their names into the thinking for Paul Whelan's starting line up in future games .

Under 8 Game

Some of our youngest players made the most of the short cross - town trip to Ballinacurra on Saturday morning , where both sides provided a brilliant hours entertainment , with score galore on show. Well done to Jamie, Pierce, Noel , Diarmuid, Christian, Jake, Jay, Dylan, Billie,Tom, Izaak, Gerry, Jonathon, Darragh, Sean and Michael , each of whom enjoyed showing off their skills before a very appreciative attendance of parents , friends and other family members .

Building Program The Committee responsible for raising funds for the new dressing rooms and facilities at Pairc Lios gCul would like to thank all our supporters , members and neighbours who have committed to the "standing order" initiative .

We have now received the support of in excess of 100 who have signed up to the scheme , and we are actively working towards the magic numbers required to seek funding for the project .

As everyone knows , we also needs to raise a lump sum of available funds , so watch for as very attractive "buster night" the details of which will be launched soon .
