GAA 125 Celebrations
Lá na gClub – May 10th 2009
May 10th has been designated Lá na gClub as part of the 125 celebrations. The following are some guidelines as to how clubs might mark the occasion.
NB – NO GAMES CAN BE PLAYED ON THAT DAY EXCEPT WITHIN THE CLUB
Preliminary
- Club sets up a Lá na gClub sub-committee
- Club grounds are cleaned up for the weekend
- All photographs of winning teams are brought up to date
- Trophy cabinet update
Ceremonial

Mass for deceased members and re-dedication of Club Grounds etc.

Parade to field by all underage players behind club banner and band

Unveiling of plaques honouring those who developed the club and nurtured the talent within the club (or other major historical figures who were members of the club)

Raising the 125 flag

Tree planting ceremony

Time Capsule

125 Memory Wall

Reunion of past teams
Historical
-
Exhibition in the club of all photographs, jerseys, DVDs, videos or other artefacts from the club’s history such as old team sheets, minutes of meetings etc. Turn the club into a museum for the weekend. Request all members to bring photographs etc. for the display

Use the weekend to give out and collect questionnaires for the Oral History Project with Boston University

- Underage Blitz for up to Under 12 and a separate one for older underage players
- Competition for Married v Single Men
- Gaelic for Mammies
- Recreational Gaelic football/hurling competition for those who have retired
- Rounders Competition
- Poc Fada and Cic Fada competition
- 45m Free-taking Competition
- An Míle is Gaiste – The Fastest Mile competition
Cultural
· Concert of Scór acts from years gone by and the present.
