Erins Own 0-09 Glenbower Rovers 0-11

Erins lost out to Glenbower Rovers by 2 points in the replay of the 1st round of the Junior A Football Championship in Dungourney. Erins Own opened the scoring with an Eoghan Murphy point but the Killeagh men soon equalised. Erins Own found scores hard to come by playing against a strong wind even though we had the lions share of possession and we had to wait 17 minutes for our 2nd score which came from a free by Eoghan Murphy. Kieran Murphy was our only other scorer in the 1st half and we trailed 7 points to 3 at half time.

Playing with the wind in the 2nd half we continued to create plenty of good scoring opportunities and Diarmuid O Flynn got an early point to close the gap. Maurice O Carroll was excellent in this half and was a constant threat to Killeagh making some great runs through the defence scoring 2 points from play and also winning frees. We drew level with five minutes remaining but a loose pass when we on the attack proved costly as Killeagh scored from the counter attack. We had a great opportunity to win the game with the last kick but unfortunately the goal effort was wide of the post.

Erins Own had fine performances from the aforementioned Maurice O Carroll, Ronan O Carroll, Patrick Fitzgerald, Kieran Murphy and Sean Kelly.

Erins Own now play Dungourney in the 2nd round next Tuesday at the same venue.
