Castlemartyr GAA Notes 20-06/2011

Junior A Hurling

Avondhu/Imokilly J H L S1: Thur 16, Jun 11:

Carrigtwohill 2-8 Castlemartyr 0-15

Castlemartyr got another league win under their belt after a one point victory in Carrigtwohill on Thursday night. A last minute pointed free from Jimmy Smiddy ensured the points in a mixed display from Castlemartyr. Carrigtwohill led at the break by two points on a score of 1-3 to 0-4. Castlemartyr’s points coming from Eddie Clifford (2), Donnacha O’Tuama and Jimmy Smiddy.

The second half proved a tight affair with never more than a couple of points separating the sides. The introduction of Barry Lawton proved decisive as he notched up 3 points. A second Carrightwohill goal in the second half cancelled out a number of Castlemartyr points and in the end it was left to Jimmy Smiddy to win the match with a free after Brian Smiddy was fouled in centre field.

East Cork Junior A Hurling First Round

In a repeat of last years decider Castlemartyr and Dungourney meet again in the first round of the 2011 campaign in Midleton on Saturday night. After last years gripping final, a big crowd is sure to travel to Clonmult Memorial Park in Midleton to see you comes out on top. While both teams know they have the cushion of the back door, I’m sure they will be anxious to get their campaigns off to a winning start. The loss of Brian Lawton for this game will be a blow for the Reds, but other players will have to step up if Castlemartyr are to have any hope of victory. Throw in for this game is 7pm.

The following day, Sunday 26th, in our own pitch, two games are down for decision. St. Ita’s meet Carrigtwohill at 2.45 while Erins Own take on Killeagh at 4.30. All club members are asked to give a hand on the day if available.
