Championship Preview

Lios gCul v Midleton ,

Junior A Hurling Championship at Dungourney , Saturday 18th June , 7.30 pm

All roads lead to the beautiful Dungourney playing fields on Saturday as the battle for Jamsey fittingly gets under way on the famous Kelleher's stomping ground.

Mike Woods' side have prepared well for the opener against our big town neighbours and we look forward with excitement to the encounter. Defensively solid , we will expect big games from Ciaran Cronin , Noel Connery and Jer O'Connell , while , up front , we will look to John Cashman , Rob Smart and Maurice O'Connell to keep the score board ticking in our favour.

As with all challenges against a side who can call on many players with senior experience , we will enter this one as firm underdogs , but , as the old saying goes ... "ignore the size of the dog in the fight , look for the size of the fight in the dog" . Here's to a cracker on Saturday .

As usual , watch out for any late changes to time or venue , and make sure you're registered for CLUBTEXT , and follow us on Facebook , to ensure you're right up to date on all Club matters.

Junior League , Div III

Our second string had a chastening experience at Ballynoe on Friday , which we hope will not be a serious set back to Mike Woods' plans for Saturday next , especially as he has exhibited a courageous and complimentary attitude to providing opportunities for all to establish a firm grasp on a jersey numbered 1-15 in his plans .

No positives to report on this one , I'm afraid , and one hopes that our famous bouncebackability will feature with the next opportunity for redemption is afforded to the side.

Under 13 Hurling Lios gCul v Bride Rovers

A good all round team performance in Pairc Lios gCul on a breezy but very warm Saturday afternoon , saw the boys deserved winners over our visitors from Rathcormac / Bartlemy . A solid defensive spine of Sean Power and Ciaran Cashman saw our visitors attacking options repelled , whilst midfield pairing of Sean Nagle and Caolan O'Brien linked defence and attack superbly . Cian Healy worked his socks off on the '40 , while Liam Chandler and Liam O'Shea topped the scoring charts on a day when all players contributed handsomely to a good win .

Local Affairs

Unfortunately , we have seen a recent rise in what can loosely be termed anti-social behaviour, with criminal damage to Club and local property seemingly on the increase . Additionally , house burglary also seems to be on the increase .

We urge all Club members and friends to watch out for each other , and to ensure that we work together with the relevant authorities to protect our community from instances such as this , which , thankfully are seldom , but require appropriate action to ensure it is stamped out fast .

Congratulations To Ciaran Cronin , Patrick O'Mahony and John Cronin , in action in the Cork County Senior Hurling Championship last Sunday . When last were brothers on opposite sides in such an encounter previously , one wonders ?

Johnsy bore the CIT colors while big brother Ciaran lined up opposite in the Imokilly candystripe geansai.

To Jer O'Connell who officiated at the Munster Intermediate Championship semi final in Thurles .

A big failte to Cian Maurice O'Connell , who arrived weighing 9lbs 8oz on Saturday . A corner forward on our minor team of 2029 , perhaps ? Congrats to proud mam and dad. Also congratulations to young Ciaran O'Shea who starred with the Imokilly Under 14 footballers in the recent encounter against Seandun and in the victory over Waterford .

Finally , congratulations to our Club Colleague , Caoilinn Hickey whose superb play assisted Cork's Under 14 Ladies Football side to All Ireland Final success in Birr on Sunday.
