Rochestown Park sponsored County Intermediate Hurling league – Div 2

Fr. O’Neills 1-13 St. Catherines 1-08

Success for the home team Fr. O’Neills when this County Intermediate hurling league tie was played at sun drenched Ahavine on Sunday afternoon last. St. Catherines were upside their opponents their opponents at 0-03 apiece at nineteen minutes. Further points from Stephen O’Brien and Brian Mulcahy meant the interval deficit was still only a point. The score now standing at 0-06 to 0-05.

A frenzy of scores ensued on the changeover. Six in all inside four minutes of the restart. Ger O’Learys goal within sixty seconds the most significant. Substitute Shane Cotter pointed twice for the Saints. But O’Neills were always able to respond. Shane Hartigan and Eoin Conway on target stretching the advantage to 1-11 to 0-08 to fifity minutes.

Shane Kearney foraging for the ball released Brian Mulcahy whose goalbound effort was parried by Paul Colbert, only for Tim O’Connor to first time the breaking ball to the net.

But O’Neills finished the stronger. A quick response with a point from the impressive Billy Murphy put paid to any possible recovery. O’Neills 1-13 to 1-08 winners of a league tie which never really ignited.

County Minor Premier Premier 2 Hurling League – Round 2.

St Catherines 1-09 Aghada 1-08

Second success with as many outings with this narrow win over a gallant Aghada challenge in the County Minor Premier 2 hurling played under lights at Ballynoe on Friday night last. Little or nothing was separating the two evenly matched teams with the scores level on five occasions as the first half progressed. Tommy Dobbin and Giorgio Corgliano finding the range for the opposition. Denis Lane, again at full forward for the Saints on target before a late Daniel Mangan point eased the home side into a narrow lead of 0-06 to 0-05.

An Eoin Hegarty goal quickly followed by a point from the same player, both from play, saw Aghada grasp the initiative. Ahead 1-08 to 0-07 to the three quarter mark. Catherines using up their full quota of substitutes with James Neville cutting the deficit. Before Brian Mulcahy with a stunning goal at the end of a defense splitting run matched only by a wonder point from distance saw parity restored and an eventual narrow win attained.
