Junior Hurling

Lios gCul 0.14 Mayfield 1.18

A very worthwhile run out in Mayfield last Thursday saw two different halfs of play . We were slow to settle , and our striking remained poor in a lacklustre opening period , but improved immeasurably through a very determined second half .

Striking successive wides in the opening period allowed our hosts to stretch a lead where they were more ruthless in front of the posts. Anthony McCarthy ably deputised between the sticks and was again afforded valuable protection by Cathal Cashman , whilst Maurice O'Connell was our scorer in chief in a very capable second half performance .

Junior Hurling League Div 1

Lios gCul 0.14 Dungourney 2.15

A game disrupted by a horrific injury to Darragh Ahern (to whom we extend our very best wishes for a speedy recovery) and played in a gale force wind , saw our visitors inflict another league victory over us at Pairc Lios gCul on Sunday .

Leading by 0.09 to 0.03 approaching half time , and aided by the elements , the hour long delay before the game resumed seemed to disrupt any momentum we had built up , and we never regrouped , being outscored by 2.12 to 0.05 thereafter .

Having failed to build up an interval lead that the wind advantage would have deemed necessary , the second half saw us outplayed in most areas , and our worrying feature of not testing the 'keeper seems to becoming a worrying trend. Long before the final blow , we had lost shape , lost our ability to make the right decision , and ultimately lost the two league points on offer .

And finally … Congratulations to all the boys and girls of the parish who celebrated their First Holy Communion last Saturday , where , despite a windy and wet start to the day , the weather failed to dampen spirits throughout . Best wishes this week also to Declan Whelan and Maria Leonard who get married on Friday .

Best wishes from all in CLCG Lios gCul to the happy and very popular couple . And finally this week , best wishes to all the youngsters who are entering the final stages of preparation for their State and other Examinations . Go n'eiri an t'adh leat go leir .
