Junior Football Championship

Lios gCul 0.13 Ballinacurra 0.08

Saturday afternoon in Rostellan saw Timmy Mulcahy's side maintain the early season momentum as they powered into a final four showdown with neighbours Carrigtwohill . Starting with four changes from the previous round , our side took a little while to settle , and slept into a 0.03 to 0.01 deficit early on .

However , a strong second quarter saw us retire for the jaffa cakes and oranges with a significant 0.09 to 0.04 interval lead , a lead which we never relinquished , despite a few shaky moments.

A typical battling performance by Ballinacurra forced cat like keeper Ciaran Cronin into a series of reflex saves in the second half to preserve our lead , and we held out for a deserved semi final slot. It was a day when the brisk downfield breeze created significant challenges that both sides raised their performance levels to match.

A see saw battle saw both sides with periods of dominance , whilst we shaded the challenges through a tremendous workrate and appetite . Eoin Riordan led by example in a dominant midfield performance , capped with three solid scores . Others to positively work the umpires arms were Conor Walsh , sub John Cashman ( with his first Junior Championship score - the first of many ?) , Maurice O'Connell and a beauty by John McCarthy.

Cork Under 21 panellist John Cronin confidently nailed the free taking opportunities that arose , whilst our backs , led by the solid Jamie Hurley ( one of the four "new starters" who will push for a starting slot in Timmy's semi final side) repelled attack after attack. The lads will now switch attention to the small ball , with League games fixed for both sides later this week , and we hope that this momentum will assist the side as the long summer evenings open up match opportunities for the squad.

The semi final draw pits us against neighbours Carrigtwohill with a final slot up for grabs for the victors.

Under 14 Hurling

Lisgoold 2.05 Bride Rovers 2.08 Our under 14 boys played Bride Rovers in Lisgoold last Monday night in the 4th round of the Hurling League. With a very wet start to the game, our boys fought hard but Bride Rovers beat us by 3 points on a score line of 2-8 to 2-5. Kieran Cashman suffered an injury during the first half but typical of his dedication wanted to play on, so he played in goals in the second half and our goal keeper, Darragh Fleming replaced him in the back line.

We wish Kieran a speedy recovery.

Scorers: Liam O'Shea 0-4, Kieran Cashman 0-1, Darragh Fitzgerald 1-0, Ciaran O'Shea 1-0

Under 13 Football Championship

Just like their older adult counterparts , these young blues will have to concentrate on the small ball , as their league and Championship season ended in the picturesque Lee Valley town of Coachford on a rainy Saturday .

We were beaten by a better side ( and there's no harm in that ) and the honourable way in which the boys battled to the final whistle was very encouraging . Solid performances by Sean Power , Sean Nagle , and man of the match and captain Dylan Wright were pleasing aspects of a battling performance where the better side won . Best wishes also to Eoin Ruane as he battles back from an injury sustained in this game.
