Junior Hurling League

Lios gCul 1.12 Ballygiblin 2.10

The journey to Ballygiblin proved unsuccessful as we left the picturesque North Cork venue without the league points in a very tight and close encounter on Tuesday evening . The concession of a last minute goal was to prove costly , as it afforded us no opportunity to regroup and we had no chance to reel back in our hosts who prevailed by the narrowest of margins .

The final result was somewhat frustrating , as we wasted numerous opportunities to wrap up victory , many of which we spurned , dropping chances short and wide in a frustrating final quarter . Cathal Cashman , solid and dependable in a sound second half performance , stepped up to the mark on a key performance from the young and improving defender while Rob Smart was our stand out performer in a somewhat wasteful forward division .

John Cronin scored our sole goal , which , on another night may have been the winning score , but fate , and poor shooting was to befell us before the long journey home

Minor Football League

Lios gCul 3.10 Tracton 1.04

Momentum continues with Owen Hegarty's charges as the Minor Footballers notched another success , now reaching a three wins out of four ratio in this competitive league . Cian Scannell was exceptional in his finishing , with his two goal burst proving a major turning point in an encounter that was , up to that point , somewhat tighter than the final score might suggest .

John Cashman , once again , was very solid in the pivotal centre back role , as he controlled the play from his berth at the heart of the defense. Positional switches and astute management of resources worked in a very effective way , as the constant movement of the forward division, in particular , caused countless problems for our visitors to Pairc Lios gCul on Bank Holiday Monday.

Under 13 Football

Lios gCul 1.05 Tracton 6.05 A second visit by the Minane Bridge outfit to Pairc Lios gCul in six days saw our U13's fall in a very exciting game to our visitors who deserved victory on a very breezy but warm Saturday afternoon in Pairc Lios gCul .

Having played well in the fiirst half , and outscored our opponents by six scores to three , the old axim of "goals win matches" was never truer as we conceded three goals in that opening perriod to trail by the slenderest margin at the break .

Sean Nagle was our best forward in a positive outing , best supported by Liam O'Shea who curled two beautiful points and Cian Healy , whose brave successful bid for our sole goal gave us a great lift .

Having restricted our opponents to two further solitary points with ten minutes remaining , a brilliant team move saw Healy fouled for a penalty , that , if converted , would tie the game .

Brilliant centre back Ciaran Cashman stepped forward to take the resultant spotter , and , striking it with wonderful force , saw the ball unluckily rocket off the crossbar , and rebound almost forty metres out the field .

Our visitors seemed rejuvenated by this let off , and despite our best efforts , they rounded off their victory in style with some late scores for a deserved victory .

Under 12 Football

A road win for the young blues over Ballinacurra on Wednesday keeps momentum boiling , and preserves the 100% "away" record for Paul Whelan's charges , in an encounter where James Murphy ( in a rare "lar na pairce" role ) Dara Colleary , Joseph Murphy ( whose goal was out of the top drawer) and Alan O'Reilly were the pick of a very impressive team performance .

Under 8 Blitz

A wonderful festival of hurling at Castlemartyr on Saturday saw our young side take on Watergrasshill , Cloyne and KLilleagh - Itas in a County Board organised Under 8 blitz , and , following a great morning of excitement , it's fair to say that the future looks bright based on the performance of this very talented group .

All players got loads of game time , and thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to test our skills in a very enjoyable format , which was played on the Go Games concept . Well done to all concerned. Here's to a long and enjoyable year of entertainment like this .

Another Munster Champion in our village -- this time a wonderful performance by Caoilin Hickey who anchored Cork to victory in the Munster Ladies Football Championship Final against Kerry .

Congratulations from all at CLCG Lios gCul to Caolin , her mum and dad , Nora and John ,and brother Cathal , who is also showing similar ability in our under age teams . Names to watch for the fututre , no doubt .

Thoughts of all in CLCG Lios gCul thios weekend are with the O'Leary family , and particularly our Club colleague and former Treasurer Donal , on the passing of his father , Roger , after a long battle against illness . Ar lamh dheis De go raibh a h'ainm dhillis .
