Aghada GAA news

02 May, 2011

All roads lead to Páirc Uí Rinn next Sat 7th May for the opening game of the Senior Football against Valley Rovers. A lot of injuries have curtailed our preparation but we have to hope for the best. Colm Lyons throws in the leather at 6-30

Both teams operate at Div 2. Aghada have played 5 wining two and one draw . On the other hand Valleys have played 4 games wining one and drawing with Na Piarsaigh. Aghada’s best game was against Na Piarsaigh, when they played outstanding football on the opening day of the league. Aghada other win was over old rivals Glenville. Both teams lost heavily to Newcestown. So it is shaping up to a contest that will go to the wire.

Good luck lads.

Last Sunday night we had the last run out Against St Nicks down in Rostellan. Aghada opened well enough to lead at the short whistle by six points to three.

On resumption we added a point but the Saints hit back to score five points on trot. Aghada added two points to leave the game level 0-10 each at the long whistle. Team and scores

Andy O’Donoghue, Billy Hennessey, Stephen Cashman, Brian Wall, Eoin Savage, Hugh Fanning, Aidan O’Connell, Pearse O’Neill (0-1), Eoin Healy Matt O’Connor, Josh O’Shea (0-2 frees1), J P O’Connor, Cian Fleming (0-5 frees 4) Brendan Flaherty Michael Russell(0-1)

Well done to Aaron Stafford and Jake O’Donoghue who became the latest Aghada men to win a Dick Barrett Shield medal when Imokilly won the Cork U15 hurling championship. Of course the guiding hand behind Imokilly was our own Fergal Condon. Well done all

Well Done also to the Aghada ladies Hanna Looney, Cathy Tynan, Emma Farmer, and Roisin Phelan who won Munster medals with Cork yesterday when they beat Kerry in both U14 and Minor finals Hanna got girl of the match at u14 while Roisin also got girl of the match in the minor game.
