Lisgoold 2-16 (22)

Cobh 4-5 (17)

Our Minors kicked off their league campaign with a good away win over Cobh under lights last Friday night. Paddy Buckley (from Bride Rovers) was due to referee this game but due to a mix-up was not able to come. Fortunately Moss Mulcahy was able to step in and the game went ahead. A whirlwind start was had for our lads, as a penalty from John Cronin and a cracking 25 yard goal from Killian gave Lisgoold a 2-3 to 0-0 lead. Cobh however, came back and superb link up play from Alan Busteed and Mark Ronan made sure they kept in touch. Some nice scores from John Cashman and John McCarthy ensured Lisgoold went in for the half time Jaffa, 2-7 to 2-3 ahead.

The Second half was yet again another open contest as both sides were dedicated to play very open football. Cobh dragged themselves back into contention when a needless penalty was conceded, and it was duly dispatched to the net. The pressure was on our minors but the industrious Alan Conroy and the creative John Cronin led them out of trouble and our forwards clicked into gear and pulled away to win by 5 points. A welcome return was had by Denis O’Riordan (who returned from the rugby fields) when introduced showed great strength and determination with scoring a good point, no doubt his physique and presence will be a great advantage for the lads this season. It was a solid win and manager Noel Connery was stated to be “very satisfied with the performance, but a lot of mistakes were made” so room for improvement, but a winning start made.

Well Done to Elaine Bradley, Yvonne O’Keeffe and Jeanette Dunlea on finishing second in the Munster Final in Scór last Saturday. The ‘Sister Act’ just fell short on taking the Munster title. However, they have done the whole parish proud, and can reflect back on what was a very successful campaign.
