Under 14 Hurling

Lios gCul 6.10

Cloyne 5.03

A manky night for hurling, with cold wind and driving rain was largely ignored by all at Cloyne on Tuesday , as two well balanced sides gave everything in a very entertaining Under 14 tie that kept spectators on their toes throughout.

Our more accurate forwards were just about the difference on the night where the sides shared eleven goals in a ding dong tussle . Brian Farrell , goal hero Eoghan Hodnett , Dara Fitzgerald and the superb Caomhan O'Shea were the building blocks for the deserved success.

Under 12 Hurling

Lios gCul 2.03

Ballygarvan 2.04

A cracking game Pairc Lios gCul on Wednesday saw our gallant effort fall just short against a talented visiting Ballygarvan side. Early pressure from our visitors was repelled by the excellent Eoin Ruane and Jason Hegarty , whose comfort afforded solid goalkeeper James Murphy an opportunity to shine between the sticks .

We restricted out opponents to scores mostly from placed balls , and recovered well to trail by a single point by the short whistle . Powered forward by the excellent Cian Healy at the pivotal defensive slot , and guided by Robert Williams and Liam Stack in the midfield area , we pressed the overworked Ballygarvan 'keeper into save after save . Scorer in chief , Liam O'Shea was superb throughout , and he kept our scores coming . With a fine , and well deserved goal by Jason Collins , we led by a point entering injury time.

However , the concession of two late frees ( probably caused by fatigue - six of the starting side had played the Sciath na Scoil Blitz earlier that day) proved costly as our gallant effort to snatch a deserved result fell agonisingly short.

What a colorful scene in Lisgoold on Saturday afternoon as young hurlers descended on our playing fields in huge numbers in a festival of sport . We hosted City Senior Club Na Piarsiagh , Boherlan - Dualla from the "Home of Hurling" Tipperary and local friends from Fermoy .

In all almost twenty games were played at Under 8 , 9 and 10 level with each participant being provided with a huge amount of game time , and the opportunity to improve his ( and her ) skills throughout the most enjoyable games which followed the Go Games format .

The enjoyment experienced by all the participants was a joy to see , and the weather even smiled on us throughout . The grounds were in pristine condition , and the standard of play lived up to the expectation levels . A special thanks to the parents of the participants whose sandwiches , cakes and buns provided a very welcome finale to a brilliant day all round . Well done , and thank you to everyone involved , and to the travelling Clubs who made the day so special for everyone.

Very best of wishes this week to the boys and girls of Ballincurrig and of Leamlara National Schools who make their Confirmation this Wednesday (13th) . Here's hoping that you all have a fantastic day , and the weather shines warmly on you throughout .

The popular Social Network site "Facebook" has proven to be a massive growth phenomenon in the past 18 months especially , and is proving equally popular in our community . We reached another milestone last week when Eoghan Downey became the 200th "friend" on the site . It is a great way to keep up to date with Club matters , match fixtures and results , so , as we build toward the 300th "friend" why not link up and keep in touch on the Club Facebook pages ?

LOTTO The lucky numbers pulled from the draw drum this week were 12 , 19 and 20 , and we had no winner . Consolation prize winners were Keith McSweeney (x 2) Anita O'Driscoll and Kevin Cotter .
