THIS Friday evening see’s the first East Cork Championship Final of the year as Erin’s Own take on Midleton for the Clonmult Memorial Cup in the Michael Feeny Builders Sponsored Final in Cobh.

This particular Championship is the showcase of Under 21 ‘A’ football in the Division and is one of the most prestigious Cups to be won.

Last year’s final at the same venue in Cobh between Glanmire and Aghada was a cracker as Glanmire had the early advantage, then Aghada came back and nearly snatched victory from the men from Sallybrooke in the dying seconds, but Glanmire held out for victory.

This year neither oflast year'ssides appear in the Final, which is an indication of the progress made by both Erin’s Own and Midleton to secure their final berths.

Erin’s Own had two significant wins, firstly defeating Glanmire in Sallybrooke with a comfortable victory, then Erin’s Own defeated Youghal in Championship Semi Final in Carrigtwohill in a much closer affair, but the men from Caherlag had that bit more in hand when it counted.

A lot of people were tipping Aghada to go one better in 2011, but the Magpies had other ideas and Midleton will be a force to be reckoned with come next Friday evening at 6.45pm. The Midleton win was a significant one and everything is adding up to being a mighty night of top class football on a great field at Cobh.

Routes to the Final

Erin’s Own 2-12 Glanmire 2-01
